Bishop Lang: 'Religious bigotry' should not continue unchecked after arson attack on church in Tabgha, Israel

Bishop Declan Lang, Chair of the Bishops' Conference Department for International Affairs, has released a statement expressing his sadness and regret at the destruction caused by a fire on 18 June that destroyed part of a Catholic Church on the Sea of Galilee. Authorities believe it was a deliberate attack carried out by Jewish extremists.

The Pope commemorates the late Patriarch of Cilicia of the Armenians

Pope Francis has sent a message to Bishop Gregoire Ghabroyan, administrator of the Patriarchate of Cilicia of the Armenians, for the funeral of His Beatitude Nerses Bedros XIX Tarmouni, who died on 25 June, to be held in the Cathedral of St. Elie and St. Gregory the Illuminator in Beirut.

Bishops hold a minute’s silence for victims of terrorism as Bishop of Nottingham is ordained

The Bishops of England and Wales held a minute’s silence in memory of the victims of last week’s terrorist violence before the Episcopal ordination of Fr Pat McKinney in Nottingham, 3 July. Cardinal honours memory of those who died in 7/7 attacks

Today is a day of sadness for many as we remember the victims of the terrorist attacks in London 10 years ago. It is also a day when we salute the bravery of the emergency services and remember the dignity of the victims’ families.
