Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor to join Pope Benedict XVI in Lourdes

Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor will join His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI in Lourdes on Saturday 13th September to mark the 150th anniversary of the apparitions.

It is 150 years since St Bernadette first saw an apparition of Our Lady in a Grotto in the French town, which has become a destination for pilgrims from all over the world. Cardinal Cormac will join the Pope in celebrating Mass and visiting the Grotto to mark the occasion.

Speaking of his four-day pilgrimage, Cardinal Cormac said, “Lourdes is a place of tremendous spiritual enrichment, which has brought consolation and hope to thousands of pilgrims. I am delighted to be joining the Pope to mark this Jubilee year and to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the apparitions.”

The celebrations are due to take place over three days, concluding on Monday 15th September.
